The Wall by Eve Bunting

I have used this book with adults and elementary students. It is a very moving story of a young man and his father's visit to the wall. They are looking for his grandfather's name on the wall. This book is very significant given our recent wars and military actions. Purchase the The Wall from Amazon.com.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is more than a day off of school or the day the beaches open It is a day to remember all the men and women who have made sacrifices so we can be free. The time before Memorial Day is a great time to review what this holiday represents. Invite a veteran into your classroom to talk about what the day means to him or her. Read the The Wall by Eve Bunting and ask your students to write what they think Memorial day would mean to the main characters in this picture book.
