Introduction
This lesson was developed in the class Teaching with WebQuests , a course offered by the Teacher Education Institute.
This WebQuest was designed for a Marketing and Desktop Publishing class as an 8th grade elective course. It involves a great deal of student teamwork and creativity while designing an advertising portfolio for a fictional company. The portfolios will contain elements for a new product line that includes logos, slogans, flyers, brochures, commercials, Web pages, business cards and letterhead. All of the levels of Bloom's Taxonomy (knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation) are applied in some area of the WebQuest.
Students will be using a variety of software programs, such as Microsoft Word/Publisher/Photo Editor/PowerPoint, HyperStudio, Adobe PageMill, and Inspiration to create the many necessary elements of an advertising portfolio.
Students will also be utilizing many advertising Web sites to get inspiration from the different designs and campaigns already out there for some popular and less-known products.
Finally, students will be "selling" their advertising portfolio ideas to their clients (classmates) in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. The clients will then be critiquing the portfolio elements to decide if they like the ideas enough to "buy" it.
